The three-spot gourami has a laterally flattened body, two dark spots and long threadlike pelvic fins. Its English name counts the eye as the third spot. Blue, gold and marbled domestic varieties differ from the natural pattern.
It inhabits South-East Asian wetlands, canals and quiet vegetated waters, including Mekong floodplains. It eats zooplankton, small crustaceans and insect larvae. A labyrinth organ permits supplementary air breathing.
A male builds a bubble nest near the surface. It guards the collected eggs and early offspring stages, remaining near the chosen breeding site.
Długość standardowa (SL): od końca pyska do nasady płetwy ogonowej. Długość zwykle spotykana według źródła, nie średnia populacji. Widok przedni ma przybliżone proporcje.
