The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The palette surgeonfish, also known as the blue tang, has a vivid blue, laterally flattened body with a black flank pattern and a yellow tail. It inhabits Indo-Pacific reefs, especially clear waters with currents over the outer reef.
It mainly feeds on zooplankton above the seabed, supplemented by algae. Loose gatherings can be seen over reefs. Young and immature fish often stay near branching corals and squeeze among the branches when frightened rather than fleeing for long distances through open water.
A sharp, movable spine lies on each side of the tail base. Sudden movements of the rear body can bring these spines into use during defence.
Długość całkowita (TL): od końca pyska do końca płetwy ogonowej. Długość zwykle spotykana według źródła, nie średnia populacji. Widok przedni ma przybliżone proporcje.
