Kribensis — size comparison — facts and sources
The kribensis inhabits West Africa from eastern Benin through southern Nigeria to western Cameroon. It has an elongated body with a dark stripe; the belly may turn intensely red or violet.
It feeds on invertebrates, but research in Nigeria’s Sombreiro River also found algae, plants and detritus in its diet. It uses sheltered places near the bottom.
A pair selects a hiding place for eggs and offspring care. During breeding it displays belly colours more prominently and defends the shelter’s surroundings.
