Acei is a formally undescribed Lake Malawi cichlid form labelled Pseudotropheus sp. Acei. Recognisable fish have elongated violet-blue bodies and yellow fins.

It also occurs over sandy bottoms with submerged timber, grazing algae and fine material on branches and trunks. Wood provides feeding surfaces where extensive rocks are absent.
