The peppered cory has a grey-brown body with irregular dark patches and rows of protective bony plates. Barbels around the mouth investigate the bottom. Formerly known as Corydoras paleatus, it is now placed in Hoplisoma.
It lives near the bottom in waters of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. It searches for worms, crustaceans and insects, supplementing its diet with plant material. It may also swim to the surface and take in air to supplement gill breathing.
During spawning a female holds a small batch of eggs between her pelvic fins, then attaches them to a selected surface. She repeats the action many times, distributing successive batches.
Długość standardowa (SL): od końca pyska do nasady płetwy ogonowej. Przykład, nie średnia populacji. Widok przedni ma przybliżone proporcje.
