Daktari cichlid — size comparison — facts and sources

Daktari is a formally undescribed Lake Malawi cichlid form labelled Maylandia sp. Daktari. Dominant males from Undu and Hai Reef are bright yellow; populations from Chiwindi and Liutche have a bluish tinge on the back.

It lives where rocks meet sand and takes plankton from open water. Territorial males also feed on surface growth. A male may dig a tunnel at a rock’s base and use it for spawning. Females care for eggs by carrying them in their mouths.
