Labeotropheus fuelleborni has a massive body and fleshy rostrum projecting above the mouth. It inhabits shallow rocky Lake Malawi waters. Populations differ in colour, including pale forms with irregular dark patches.

It scrapes growth from rocks. Its downward-facing mouth and forehead structure allow feeding close to the substrate, taking small organisms together with algae. After spawning, females incubate eggs in their mouths and shelter the developing offspring there.
