Banggai cardinalfish — size comparison — facts and sources

The Banggai cardinalfish has a silver body with three dark bands and pale spots on elongated fins. Its native range includes Indonesia's Banggai Islands and nearby islands.

In shallow water it shelters among seagrasses, anemones and Diadema sea urchins. Fish may hover over urchin spines and hide among them when disturbed. They take small crustaceans.

Males incubate large eggs in their mouths, retaining young after hatching. Offspring leave as developed little fish without a free-swimming planktonic larval phase. They immediately seek shelter near the bottom.
