American Bulldog — size comparison — facts and sources

The American Bulldog is powerful and muscular, with a broad head, short hair and an athletic build. White often combines with coloured patches. Lines vary considerably: some are lighter with longer muzzles, others more substantial. Relatively tall legs support free, powerful movement.

It developed on southern United States farms. Ancestors helped with cattle and pigs, guarded farms and performed tasks requiring strength and determination. Usefulness long guided breeding and preserved different types. Modern populations were organised later without entirely removing differences between heavier and more athletic lines.

It usually forms strong family attachments and readily joins activities. Active and confident, it may express emotions intensely. It can be watchful around strangers and is not always readily accommodating with other dogs.
