The Alopekis is a small Greek dog with a wedge-shaped head, lively gaze and foxlike muzzle. Its name refers to a small fox. The local population varies in coat, colour and proportions, so individuals are not identical. Usually light and agile, it moves capably between buildings and over uneven ground.
It descends from small dogs accompanying Greek farmsteads. Usefulness involved watchfulness, companionship and interest in small farm animals. Enthusiasts’ efforts aim to preserve this local population. There is no basis for treating it as a miniature large breed or assigning every dog the same documented ancestry.
Alopekis dogs can be lively, curious and sociable with their owners. They quickly notice changes and may divide attention between people and interesting scents. Temperament accounts concern a local type with natural variation.
